Material: Ceramic

Dimensions: 5x5 inches

Year: 18th Century

Location discovered: unknown

History:

A typical hand-painted Delft tile traditionally made in the Netherlands and brought to the US by the Dutch who settled in Gowanus area and built mills that took advantage of the tidal flow of the Gowanus march.  This tile was housed in an old display case in the original exhibit of the Old Stone House and most likely donated by former board members. Although the pieces are not original to the Old Stone House, these are typical objects you would have found in a Dutch house in the 18th Century.
